RELEASE FROM CRAIG INGRAM MP - MEMBER FOR GIPPSLAND EAST Issued: Monday 5 February 2007 |
The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, is calling for a permanent solution to provide mobile telephone coverage to the residents of Buchan and district.
“Telstra provided a temporary mobile phone tower for the duration of the recent Gippsland bushfires, stationed to service Buchan and district,” Mr Ingram said.
“This was an extremely welcome mobile service to the community, providing much needed communications to the area during the fire threat.
“There is real concern that the temporary tower will soon be removed leaving the area without coverage.
“Buchan and district has been advocating for a long period to achieve permanent mobile coverage and the establishment of a temporary facility shows that this can easily be achieved.
“I have written to the Federal Member for Gippsland, Peter McGauran, requesting that he makes representation to the Commonwealth Government and Telstra to ensure that the service is retained until a permanent solution can be provided for this community,” Mr Ingram concluded.
