RELEASE FROM CRAIG INGRAM MP - MEMBER FOR GIPPSLAND EAST Issued: Wednesday 25 July 2007 |
The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has welcomed an announcement from the Minister for Health, Bronwyn Pike, that the State Government will allocate $125,000 to build the oncology and dialysis unit at the Bairnsdale Regional Health Service (BRHS).
“This funding will assist the hospital, which has allocated $700,000 of its own, and the efforts of the Pelicans, who have raised $320,000 through the community,” Mr Ingram said.
“The construction of a purpose build oncology and dialysis unit is a major need for our community and the local health service.
“Our region has a high need for dialysis and oncology and, as our community ages, more and more Victorians are living with diabetes and requiring dialysis treatment.
“I congratulate the tremendous efforts of the Pelicans who have been -- and continue to be -- tireless in their fundraising activities for the hospital, particularly for the oncology and dialysis unit.
“This project comes on top of the funding and construction of the new accident and emergency department, which is almost fully operational.
“I recently inspected the new accident and emergency facility, which is an enormous improvement on the old facilities. The new facility will assist BRHS in delivering a more positive service at the hospital.
“I thank the Pelicans the hospital board and all those who have worked to raise the funds needed for the construction, as well as those who have assisted me in convincing the government that this is a much needed project for the region,” Mr Ingram concluded.
