RELEASE FROM CRAIG INGRAM MP - MEMBER FOR GIPPSLAND EAST Issued: Friday 9th February 2007 |
Independent MP, Craig Ingram, has taken up concerns from the Stratford community regarding the future use of the town’s Knob Reserve with the State Government.
“Failure to ratify the Knob Reserve committee is impacting on the community’s ability to utilise this area for community events and activities and is impacting on improving the facilities for community use,” Mr Ingram said.
“The Knob Reserve is an iconic public reserve.
“As an ex-police turnout paddock, it has been traditionally used by a variety of community and sporting groups including local pony clubs and other sporting groups and has been a popular venue for local concerts.
“The DSE has changed to an appointment process for the committee and many locals have applied to go onto the new committee process which started in October.
“Locals are concerned that the DSE wants to change the current community use of the reserve by altering the make-up of the committee.
“I have written to Minister John Thwaites requesting that a committee be appointed by the DSE from those members of the community who have applied through the proper process and that the community is able to again use this important regional reserve,” Mr Ingram concluded.
