RELEASE FROM CRAIG INGRAM MP - MEMBER FOR GIPPSLAND EAST Issued: Monday 21st January 2007 |
The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, met with key State Government Ministers this week when cabinet met at Lakes Entrance.
Mr Ingram spoke to Ministers of the State Cabinet, highlighting the impact of the bushfires on the East Gippsland community and attended the East Gippsland Shire Council’s presentation to the government.
“It is essential that the state’s new bushfire ministerial taskforce understands the impact on this region, which has been in the grip of bushfires since December 2006,” Mr Ingram said.
“Visiting the area affected and speaking to local businesses is one way for the government to do that.
“I welcome the announcement of funding incentives for the region, knowing that much more will be needed to assist local businesses and community affected by the fires.
“Tourist operators have been extremely hard hit by the fires, particularly business in those areas under direct impact by the fires such as Dargo, Licola, Bruthen, Omeo and the Tambo Valley.
“The cabinet visit also provided the opportunity to facilitate additional meetings between Ministers and community representatives in the areas of health, education and planning,” Mr Ingram said.
