RELEASE FROM CRAIG INGRAM MP - MEMBER FOR GIPPSLAND EAST Issued: Monday 6 November |
The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has challenged the National Party to come clean and declare that they have not grovelled for preferences from the Labor Party, in response to the revelations today that the Liberals and Labor are set to swap preferences in key seats.
“Although Peter Ryan has sworn in the past that he would never do a preference deal with the Labor Party, this comment now appears to be wavering in desperation of his party’s ailing status,” Mr Ingram said.
“Clearly, this is no longer the Nationals’ position with Peter Ryan declaring today that ‘there are discussions going on between a multitude of parties’.
“It’s clear that all the Nats have got to bargain with to gain preferences in their seats is for the National Party to swap preferences with “Labor in key regional Labor-held seats, like Narracan, Ripon, Seymour and Morwell
“The Nationals are trying to have an each way bet in keeping the Liberals happy to ensure that they get their preferences, yet at the same time attempting to negotiate secret preference deals with Labor.
“The Nationals are constantly accusing independent MPs of relying on Labor preferences.
“They now need to declare if they have asked Labor to give them preferences; in what seats; and what are they are selling out in return for these preferences,” Mr Ingram concluded.
